Teddy Bears as a Tool for Health

By Mira Kaplan, M.D.

Teddy bears have become a universal symbol of love and comfort, for their love and comfort reaches out to all of us, regardless of age, gender, or personal beliefs. Healing and wellness is enhanced and sometimes dependent upon a positive emotional state, and teddy bears help promote this positive state. Through the love and comfort they offer, teddy bears can be a tool for our health and help us receive the benefits of a healing or wellness program.

Dr. Kaplan

Dr. Kaplan shares how teddy bears can improve well being.

A couple of years ago, a teddy bear helped me with my health. My experience started when a teddy bear rescued me when I was experiencing a lot of stress during the holidays. Because of the relief I received, I wanted to share my experience with others, so I wrote "The Teddy Bear Guide to Self-Healing" and created eight different healing teddy bears.

My stress was so severe that I experienced headaches, insomnia and other symptoms. I was using the natural healing practice of putting a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow to aid sleep at night. I still had the scent on my hands and I picked up an old teddy bear to my heart and it induced so much serenity and comfort that I began feeling better immediately. I started sleeping and meditating with the scented bear. Soon I was sharing my experience and recruiting teddy bears to be messengers for healing and wellness.

Although the patented teddy bears I have created are a package of certain healing elements, any teddy can serve as a companion for a wellness program. For my suggestions on how to use your teddy bears to enhance wellness, click here. You can also check my book, "The Teddy Bear Guide to Self-Healing" for other suggestions.

Try only the suggestions that make sense to you. Create other activities that are fun and healing for you. This is all about self-discovery. Please always check with your physician for any symptoms or problems that concern you. Teddy bears and the methods presented here for your consideration should not be the sole treatment for any significant medical problem.

May you enjoy a light-hearted lifetime path filled with love, comfort and wonderful health inspired by the company of teddy bears!
