Teddy Bear & Friends, Teddy Bear Review magazines merge PDF Print E-mail

The two premiere publications serving teddy bear collectors, Teddy Bear & Friends and Teddy Bear Review, will merge into one title inTeddy Bear & Friends/Teddy Bear Review Covers 2012 published under the name Teddy Bear & Friends, published on a bimonthly schedule by Jones Publishing. The deal was announced Jan. 27 at the Debut of Dolls and DOTY Awards Banquet during IDEX trade show in Orlando, Fla. Jones Publishing also presented its Ambassador Award to Barrie and Danny Shapiro of The Toy Shoppe at the same event.

 
Online show raises $1,000 for bat conservation PDF Print E-mail

Pumpkin-Spice-PamdaBearsOctober’s Online Hallowe’en Artists Studio Trick or Treat show raised nearly $1,000 for Bat Conservation International (www.batcon.org), with almost 2,000 visitors going “door to door” to the 23 virtual studios and the Castle Hallowe’en Museum, among other stops available at www.halloweenstudiotour.com.

 

 
Toledo show adds Teddy Bears PDF Print E-mail

The Toledo Doll, Bear & Toy Show, formerly known as the Toledo Glass City Doll Show, is expanding its offerings in 2012. Now under the management of Sandy Kean-Bullock of Alora’s Attic, the show will feature new, antique, and artist teddy bears as well as dolls and accessories. Author and Teddy Bear Review columnist Ken Yenke will be appraising bears and antique toys at the show, as well.

 

The next show is scheduled for April 15 at Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. in Toledo, Ohio. Admission is $4, with children under 10 admitted free. Teddies Worldwide voting opens PDF Print E-mail

Teddies-WorldwideVoting for the Teddies Worldwide Collector's Choice Awards for the Teddies Worldwide Christmas Treasures online show will be open through Nov. 17 at the Teddies Worldwide website, where visitors can also see a preview of the online bear show. There are two award categories, miniatures and full size, and the winners will be announced when the show starts at 4 p.m. Eastern Time Nov. 18.

 

 
Give a bear, get a bear at Operation Smile PDF Print E-mail

OperationSmile_smallTwo childhood friends partnered with Operation Smile this holiday season to launch the "Zachary, Luke, or Griffin" Teddy Bears found exclusively on Operation Smile's Facebook Giving Catalog and through the Operation Smile website. The bears are named after Lisa Lori's three sons, all born with facial paralysis. After enduring years of surgeries to give her own children their smiles, Lori, a publicist, partnered with her childhood friend Kathy Van Zeeland, a handbag designer, to design three commemorative bears to bring comfort to children worldwide suffering from facial deformities. The two friends hope the bears will inspire people to give a smile and emphasize how vital these surgeries are for a child's life.
