On the Sept. 22 broadcast of the CBS television program “Inside Edition,” Steiff Consultant Archivist Rebekah Kaufman was seen helping educate consumers about things they should know about their collectibles if they are considering selling to dealers in these tricky economic times. Kaufman’s top piece of advice to anyone looking to sell a personal collectible or treasure is that they should know exactly what they are selling before they close the deal.
Some of the other tips Kaufman gave viewers was to contact the company that made the item for more identification information, posting a picture and description of the item on various Facebook pages asking for additional comments, or contacting bloggers who are knowledgeable about the subject area. This goes for all collectibles, Kaufman said, not just teddies.
Kaufman will be at the 2012 IDEX Premiere conducting a Steiff Identification/Valuation clinic, where the general public is invited to bring their Steiff and other teddy treasures for a verbal appraisal where she will reveal the history, place and timeline of your items.
